• Is there a waitlist, and how long is the typical wait time?

  • Yes, due to high demand, there is often a waitlist. The wait time depends on availability, but we work to enroll new seniors as quickly as possible.

• What kind of meals are provided, and how often are they delivered?

  • Meals are nutritionally tailored to meet each senior’s dietary needs, ensuring they are both nourishing and culturally sensitive. Deliveries are made on Fridays of each week (except during Thanksgiving week) .

• Are there any costs associated with receiving meals from the program?

  • Meals are provided at no cost to eligible seniors, thanks to support from grants, donations, and community partnerships.

• Can the iSMILE program accommodate specific dietary restrictions or allergies?

  • Yes, each senior undergoes a comprehensive assessment, and meals are customized to meet individual dietary needs and restrictions.

  • All meals are prepared and packaged under strict safety guidelines, and drivers use insulated containers to keep meals at safe temperatures until delivery.

• Can a family member or friend sign a senior up for the program on their behalf?

  • Yes, with the senior’s permission, a family member or caregiver can apply and provide the necessary information for the senior's dietary assessment.

Volunteer and Community Involvement 

• How can I volunteer for the iSMILE Meal Delivery Program?

  • You can sign up as a volunteer by contacting accessing the Volunteer Application on the website, or by contacting Common Ground Cafe.

• What volunteer roles are available, and what is the time commitment?​​

  • Volunteers may assist with meal preparation, packaging, dishwashing, delivery or social visits with program participants. Volunteers generally commit to a weekly or bi-weekly schedule. 

• ​Do I need any special qualifications or training to volunteer?

  • Volunteers should have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (for drivers), complete a brief orientation, and receive training to follow safety and food handling guidelines.

• What safety protocols are in place for volunteers who deliver meals?

  • Volunteers are trained on best practices for contactless delivery and food safety protocols, and each volunteer is encouraged to follow any additional safety guidelines required by Common Ground Cafe.
